As its contribution to the celebration of Womens History Month, Allentown Public Theater presents Parallel Lives in late March and early April at the Antonio Salemme Foundation, 542 W. Hamilton St., Suite 203, Allentown.

Created by comedians Mo Gaffney and Kathy Najimy the sketch comedy, Parallel Lives, was first produced at the Second Stage in New York City in 1986.

Since then, this comedy showcasing the humor that runs through the trials, situations and encounters of our daily lives has been in production in theaters across the country.

Audiences will notice the similarities to other sketch comedies like Saturday Night Live in the series of vignettes which poke fun at controversial topics like religion, dating, homosexuality, marriage, and sins of all varieties.

The small cast, usually two women, play a series of eccentric male and female characters who strive to cope with the vagaries of modern life and reveal an unexpected and laughable feminist point of view.

The play unfolds as two angels or supreme beings, creators of the world as we know it today, look down on their handiwork to see how things are working out.

What they see are emotionally rich relationships that run the gambit from middle aged women underwater in a university womens studies program to the blonde co-eds first date with the college jock to Disney cartoon characters mothers dejected at being excluded from the animated films starring their offspring.

To go along on this romp through the manifold, entertaining roles women play in society today you can catch Allentown Public Theaters production of Parallel Lives at the Antonio Salemme Foundation, 542 W. Hamilton St., Suite 203, Allentown.

The production runs March 22-23, March 28-30 and April 4-6 at 8:00 p.m. and April 7 at 2:00 p.m.

Tickets are adults $20 and students $15. All tickets are $12 on Thursdays.
