Munopco Music Theatre of Allentown closes its 2017-2018 season with the musical 'Hairspray'.
Based on the New Line Cinema film, written and directed by John Waters, 'Hairspray', winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, features a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman.
It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire – to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show."
When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star.
She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network... all without denting her 'do!
This family-friendly musical is under the direction of Susan McDermott, musical direction by Julius Sarkozy, with choreography by Suzanne Doran Balstar.
The large cast features Alexandria Austin as Tracy Turnblad, Richard Warmkessel as Edna Turnblad, Robert Adams as Wilbur Turnblad, Liam Mulligan as Link Larkin, Lexi Rastelli as Amber Von Tussle, Colin Walsh as Corny Collins, Beth Linzer as Velma Von Tussle, Shannon Cornish as Penny Pingleton, Tyree Scott as Seaweed, Nasheera Brown as Lil Inez, and Florence Taylor as Motormouth Maybelle.
Rounding out the cast are Ali Santos, Deborah D’Haiti, and Krystle Tate as the Dynamites, Christina Dunbar as Prudy Pingleton, and more than 40 local performers playing various ensemble parts.
The show will run June 28-30th at 8:00 p.m. and July 1rst at 2:00 p.m. and will be performed at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, 1533 Hamilton Street, Allentown, PA.
