I Love You, Youre Perfect, Now Change, a light-hearted musical that pays tribute to relationships, romance and all the baggage that comes with them, opens at the Shawnee Playhouse on May 24.

This musical comedy that explores all the twists, turns, joys, frustrations, heartbreak and disappointments of late 20th century romance premiered off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre on August 1, 1996 and ran for over 5,000 performances making it the second longest running off-Broadway musical in history.

The musical is a series of unrelated vignettes held together by a central theme of human, romantic relationships. Populated by numerous characters, the show, with book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts, is usually performed by a small cast with as few as four actors who move through varied vignettes of the harried singles scene, the pitfalls of in-laws, and decades-long marriage. Act one examines the Manhattan dating scene, while act two explores married life in suburban New York with the assistance of non-stop comedy and upbeat musical numbers.

The Star Ledger called this show, "A great date show. A perfect mating dance. Its Seinfeld set to music." Performances start May 24 and run through the summer to August 31 with evening shows at 8:00 p.m. and matinees at 2:00 p.m. Check the Playhouses website for a listing of all the performance dates.
