William Mutimer, head of the Northampton Community Colleges Theatre Department, has announced the colleges plans for its final production of the 20-21 school year season. Citizen: An American Lyric will be available for video on demand from Friday, June 11 through Sunday, June 13.

"With NCC following all appropriate governmental guidelines, the auditions, rehearsals and performances are all following these protocols," said Mutimer. "We successfully used these procedures and format for our other productions this year."

Citizen is based on the 2014 book-length poem by Claudia Rankine, a MacArthur Fellow author and playwright. Writes Heather Love in Modern Language Quarterly:

Citizen stretches the conventions of traditional lyric poetry by interweaving several forms of text and media into a collective portrait of racial relations in the United States. Rankine was awarded numerous awards for the work, including the NAACP Image Award for poetry.

The work has been adapted for the stage by Stephen Sachs.

Directed by Mutimer, the video of the performance will be available to view beginning at 12:15 a.m. on Friday, June 11, through 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 13. Tickets are now available at ncctix.org.
