William Mutimer, head of the Northampton Community College's Theatre Department, has announced the college's plans for its next production of the 21-22 school year season. The hilarious parody by Caryl Churchill, Cloud 9, will be presented in person in the college's Norman Roberts Lab Theatre, opening on Thursday, March 3.

Additional performances will be offered on Friday, March 4; Saturday, March 5; and Monday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m.

This time-shifting comedy is a hilarious and scathing parody of colonialism and the Victorian Empire, particularly in its rigid attitude toward sex. One of Churchill's most renowned works, the play uses controversial portrayals of sexuality and language, and establishes a parallel between colonial and sexual oppression. Its humor helps to convey Churchill's political message about accepting people who are different and not dominating them orforcing them into particular social roles. Due to its themes, this show is recommended for mature audiences.

The cast, directed by Clair M. Freeman, includes Griffin Boyle, Meaghan Lawlor, Michael Sheridan, Olivia Byrne, Tamara Decker, Justin Ferguson, and Andy Van Antwerp.
