(Lehigh Valley) Selkie Theatre will present Philadelphia actor/playwright Richard Bradford in his powerful new work To My Unborn Child, A Love Letter From Fred Hampton for one night only - Saturday, January 26 at 8pm, as part of The IceHouse Tonight Series.

Murdered by Chicago police as he lay beside his pregnant lover, visionary Black Panther Fred Hampton preached a compassionate revolution against racist brutality, poverty, and capitalism. To My Unborn Child… freezes a moment in time – that awful morning of December 4, 1969 – and gives Hampton one last chance to share his passionate American vision of economic justice, race and human dignity with his unborn son. Bradford's haunting original work will both challenge and inspire

To My Unborn Child, A Love Letter From Fred Hampton premiered to critical acclaim at the 2017 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Produced by Philadelphia’s Iron Age Theatre, it is directed by Iron Age Artistic Director John Doyle and is available through the Iron Age “Radical Acts” Program (www.ironagetheatre.org) that offers several touring social justice programs.Black Panther

“To My Unborn Child… is an imaginary elegy from Hampton to his unborn son. Richard Bradford’s solo performance portraying Fred Hampton is riveting. Set in the bedroom in which Hampton was killed, with his blood-soaked bed front and center on stage, the play is a lyrical and poignant tour de force through the times in which Hampton lived and perished, a snapshot of the history of the Civil Rights Movement, from the murder of Emmett Till, to the mission and assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Chicago Riots of 1968. It weaves through the complicated history, political philosophy, and activities of the BPP, which were always focused on confronting corrupt systems of power and seeking economic justice for African Americans in our country.” - Michael Lieberman, ArtBlog, Philadelphia
