Touchstone Theatre presents the premier performances of 'Rent Asunder, a Story of Tahirih'Friday August 17 and Saturday August 18.
The play is about a young woman in a difficult relationship with her husband, inspired by the story of Tahirih to break free.
Tahirih is an historic, Persian figure, known for her prodigious intellect, beauty, and audacity and for removing her veil in public in the mid-nineteeth century, declaring, "You can kill me as soon as you like, but you can never stop the emancipation of women."
She was strangled, thrown to the bottom of a well and covered with stones.
The play is dramatic, moving, a fascinating glimpse into Persian culture, and one more story relevant to the #metoo movement.
The play was written by Ms Bastani, Janet Ruhe-Schoen, and Bill George.
The company will assemble for a chat after the performance that "will go wherever your curiosity takes us."
"Rent Asunder" will be performed Friday, August 17th at 8 pm and Saturday, August 18th at 2pm and 8 pm. The show runs 65 minutes.
Touchstone Theatre is located at 321 E 4th St, Bethlehem, PA 18015. You will find a small lot behind the theater. Metered street parking is also available.
