Touchstone Theatre welcomes acclaimed comedienne and Los Angeles solo artist Kristina Wong to the Lehigh Valley for a performance of her one-woman show, 'Going Green the Wong Way.'
The show runs November 16 and 17.
In her quest to œgo green, Kristina Wong purchased a car that ran on vegetable oil, and subsequently endured a nightmare of never-ending car repairs and near death experiences finding the used cooking oil to fuel it.
When her car finally burst into flames on an L.A. freeway, Wong lost the largest line item in her monthly budget and gained the inspiration for this production.
œThe pursuit of eco-friendly living was never supposed to almost kill me," Wong explains,
"I bought Harold in 2006. He was a 1981 Mercedes Benz converted to run on vegetable oil. He was supposed to be my way of showing the world how easy and fun it was to 'go green'."
Based on her true-life adventures, but elevated to surrealist heights, the production explores the idea of how tricky it is to œdo the right thing, taking us from her confrontational 6th grade science project, to her wandering years as a missionary of recycling, to her true calling as Los Angeles patron martyr of carbon-free living.
Since its premiere two years ago, 'Going Green the Wong Way', lauded as œhysterical romp through green living and political incorrectness, has enjoyed successful runs in Miami, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, as well as playing the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
'Going Green the Wong Way' is supported locally by First Generation and nationally by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
Tickets are $25, $15 for students and seniors, with group rates available on request.
Tickets may be purchased at 610-867-1689 or online at www.touchstone.org
