Act1 founder Gerard J. Schubert, OSFS returns to direct
Center Valley, PA “ (August 23, 2012) “ Act 1 DeSales University Theatre kicks off the 2012-2013 season with one of Americas best-loved comedies, 'Arsenic and Old Lace.'
Marking the 70th anniversary of a play that The New York Times called œso funny that none of us will ever forget it, Act 1 is delighted to welcome our founder Father Jerry Schubert as the productions director.
Written by Joseph Kesselring, 'Arsenic and Old Lace' is a charming domestic face about a drama critic and his bizarre extended family, namely two well meaning spinsters aunts, Martha and Abby Brewster, who attempt to relieve lonely old men by befriending them and inviting them in for a glass of homemade wine laced with œjust a pinch of cyanide.
When their levelheaded nephew discovers their secret, and draws their attention to the fact that their antics are not only against the law, but wrong, Martha responds, œOh piffle!
One of the most popular plays in theatre history, this hilarious comedy is an American classic.
'Arsenic and Old Lace' runs September 26 to October 7 on the Main Stage Theatre of the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts, Center Valley, PA. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM. There is a Morning Matinee on Tuesday, October 2 at 9:45 AM.
A talk back with the director and cast is scheduled for Sunday, September 30 following the 2:00 PM performance.
Ticket prices are $21 for adults and $19 for students and seniors on Weekdays and $25 for adults and $23 for students and seniors on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Subscriptions and group discounts are also available.
