at their theater, 403 North 11th Street, Reading, from October 19 through the 28.  war of worlds

The novella œWar of the Worlds was written by H. G. Wells in 1898 and was immediately acclaimed as another science fiction masterpiece by Mr. Wells.

The story is about the invasion of Martians who set out to conquer earth.  They are not interested in taking prisoners or anything else human.  The Martians are superior in all respects and slowly destroying the earth and all her inhabitants.

How are humans going to survive?

Orson Wells and the Mercury Theater first performed the radio show of œWar of the Worlds live, on air October 30, 1938.  Some people missed the introduction, which stated it was a œtheater piece and not real life.  Panic struck and many people believed the end was near.

With special permission, RCP was able to collaborate with Berks Community TV in a very unique way.  A camera crew from BCTV taped a dress rehearsal of War of the Worlds on September 26 for rebroadcast on the local station as a special Halloween treat.

Pat Perfect, RCP Life Member, directs RCP veterans  Chuck Gallagher, Chad Heim, Diann Stewart, Kevin Wade, Bill Brosey and Ruth Martelli.

First timers on the RCP stage include Cheryl Crummert, Scott Kunkle, John Plummer, Jeff Littlefield and Jen Glass.

Jerre Boyer Richards, another RCP Life Member and Maggie Perfect, Pats granddaughter, play a special  part in the show.  Although he says nary a word, Sid Watts contributes mightily to the performance.

Period costumes and set pieces evoke the feel of a long ago radio studio, while a variety of sound effects created by the actors and Mr. Watts enhance the performance.

Special lighting effects add a more up dated visual effect to the proceedings.

Shows start at 8:00PM on Fridays and Saturdays with a 3:00PM matinee on Sundays.

There is a free shuttle from the Citadel, on 12th Street, that transports patrons to and from the theater.

All tickets for this show are $10.00.
