(Lehigh Valley) Selkie Theatre announces auditions for the area premiere of Lauren Gunderson's THE REVOLUTIONISTS, to be held December 16 and 17 at 7pm at the IceHouse in Bethlehem.
Four beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this bold, brave and blisteringly funny new work set during the French Revolution's Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris.Selkie's George B. Miller directs this grand and dream-tweaked comedy about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world. It's a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection...that ends in a song and a scaffold.Lauren Gunderson is the most produced living playwright in America, winner of the Lanford Wilson Award and the Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award, finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and John Gassner Award for Playwriting, and a recipient of the Mellon Foundation's 3-Year Residency. She is a Playwright in Residence at The Playwrights Foundation, and a Dramatists Guild member.Production dates for THE REVOLUTIONISTS are March 20 – March 29, 2020, as part of the popular IceHouse Tonight Series.
Casting is for 4 women:
· Olympe de Gouges (38) activist playwright and feminist. Theatre nerd, excitable, passionate, a showman.· Charlotte Corday (25) tough country girl and assassin. Serious, hardened by righteousness, never been kissed.· Marie-Antoinette (38) former Queen of France. Bubbly, graceful, opinionated, unintentionally rude, and oddly prescient.· Marianne Angelle (30s) A strong Caribbean black woman in Paris. A free woman, a spy, tough, classy, vigilant. Auditions for Selkie Theatre's production of Lauren Gunderson's THE REVOLUTIONISTS are Monday, December 16 and Tuesday, December 17 at 7pm at the Charles Brown IceHouse at 56 River St. (Sand Island) in Bethlehem, PA.
