There are plenty of laughs and a chance to put your sleuthing skills to work as you figure out whodunnit in the Pines Dinner Theaters enjoyable "Summer Lovin - The Rodewell High Comedy Murder Mystery Parody" through April 29 at the Allentown theater.

Audience members are immediately immersed in the on-stage action when they arrive at the Pines and are escorted into the five year reunion of Rodewell High.

For fans of the high school musical "Grease," some of the characters may seem somewhat familiar since Oliver Blatts original play parodies the teen musical that takes place at the fictional Rydell High. Even the shows name is a nod to one of the musicals big songs.

In town for the reunion are Rodewells cutest couple Denny and Cindy who are now married. Summer Lovin 2

As Cindy, Sam Prentice is perky and projects a wholesome, but slightly prickly, demeanor.

Parker Ryans Denny is rough around the edges and prone to distraction by his frequently ringing phone, even at the most inopportune times, to Cindys annoyance.

Also married are the randy couple Kenuckie and Roz, who provide most of the off-color humor in the show.

As Kenuckie, Matt Folger seems to be channeling Ralph Cramden in a leather jacket. Folgers Kenuckie is loud, brash and full of bluster.

Cheryl Mortiz plays bad girl Roz to a T with a whiskey-voice purr, bragging about her sex life with Kenuckie and mocking good girl Cindy.

Another familiar character is high strung former head cheerleader and reunion organizer Penny. Lelea Rodigs Penny still sports her old cheerleader uniform and is prone to breaking out in a cheer. With her eager-to-please, whiny persona, Rodig makes Penny the girl you love to hate.

Along for the ride is the elderly Ms Pinch, the schools old maid English teacher.

Syd Stauffer is hilarious as her Ms Pinch shuffles along and berates her former students for drinking and smoking while begging for a double for herself.

Besides the characters directly addressing the audience as fellow graduates of Rodewell High, members of the audience are involved in the award ceremony, judging the talent show (with a humorous twist) and ultimately even in the death of a character.

After someone turns up dead, the audience then can submit their vote for whodunit before the killer is finally revealed.

Tickets are $32 for adults and $22 for children, which includes a seat for the show. All appetizers, entrees, desserts and beverages are available a la carte for an additional cost.

Entree options include chicken Caprese, teriyaki pulled pork sliders, striped Pangasius, grilled shrimp skewers, filet mignon, fettuccine Alfredo with broccoli and butternut squash ravioli.

Dinner and the show happen concurrently and audiences are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes early.. Audiences are welcome to BYOB.

The show is rated PG-13.
