a semi-musical travesty…
“Better Than Broadway!
(or, the 129th Teddy Bear Awards)”
Saturday, October 24th - 7:30-9:30 pm
What’s the show about?
Every spring, the citizens of Krautstown go apeshit for the Teddy Bear Awards, the greatest high school musical theatre competition in all the Western Hemisphere—and beyond. Named for Teddy J Kraut, (legendary town founder/zinc miner/organic brewer/musical theater savant), the “Teddies” plays host to thousands of local high school students as they claw and scratch their hearts out to claim such prizes as “Best Song and Dance Boy,” “Greatest Diva to Be,” and “Tastiest Green Room Snack Assortment.”
Given the global importance of the Teddies, it’s not surprising that kids, parents, directors, drama boosters, even school boards will go to almost any length to win the biggest prize of of ‘em all: "Greatest Musical Ever This Year!” Sadly, along the way many rules and hearts will be broken, scandals will be covered up, plagues will be endured, and, some thespians will make the ultimate sacrifice. But for those lucky enough to survive and win a Teddy… it’s all worth it!
What do we need?
Actor-singers and some plain ol’ non-singing actors to assume the bigger roles. Very little prep is needed—just a session or two with Peter Schmidt to go over some scenes and songs.
Mostly, though, they need a lively audience! Adventurous attendees will be given cues for things to say and do throughout the show.
