"Broken Redeemed" is a performance art piece created and performed by writer and artist Evan Mosley.
This piece addresses sexual abuse and how it often takes root in the home and follows that person throughout their life- and it tells the story of emerging out of its prison.
Silence has become a very dangerous culture when it comes to abuse, and these offenses have left generations of young people to carry the weight of the trauma into adulthood.
Many victims of childhood sex abuse confess that they were too afraid to speak up because their abuser was a relative.
Some victims claim to be silenced by manipulation or made to feel ashamed by family looking to keep matters covered.
"In the Black and Latino household, seeking counsel or therapy is often abandoned simply because its not in our culture to do so," writes Mosley. "Both ethnicities have deep roots in the church but are often driven away from the church and God because of shame, bitterness, confusion, guilt, and hurt.
"The fact remains- the conversation needs to be started in the home so that the generational reoccurrence of sexual abuse can stop and people can deal with the effects of the trauma.
"The reason why I titled this piece Broken Redeemed is because I believe that art can be used to express the broken human condition- the realm of thought, passion, love, despair, and the hope of life, and Christian artists have the responsibility to address the ugly parts of life and point man to eternity, forgiveness, redemption, and healing. The audience will experience and enter into a work of art using their eyes, imagination and sensibilities."
Renaissance period art including the frescoes and masterpieces of Raphael and Michelangelo inside the Sistine Chapel were commissioned by the early church to remind believers where to put their faith as they faced many trials and troubles. Art reserves itself for interpretation by the people and is a beautiful tool that helps us identify with, connect and inspire one another. The discussion panel will include brilliant local and visiting professionals that are making a difference in their respective realm of influence; Torez Mosley-creator of DramaTherapy, Winston Alonzie- community leader and Program Director at The Boys and Girls Club Bethlehem, and Counselors.
The discussion will also be attended by local Pastors and Community Influencers. The hope for this event is to encourage Black and Latino families to stop hiding from truth and fight to end this epidemic for our children's sake.
