“Earth Woven: Stories of Connection, Creation, and Wonder” is a storytelling concert aimed at adults, featuring nine tellers and poets of wide-ranging styles. Storyteller Denise McCormack says it is one of an on-going series at Bethlehem’s Charles A. Brown Ice House.
“There will be both classic tales that we love to hear and the recounting of personal memories, as well as poets using storytelling techniques. It will be people telling stories in their own ways,” she says. It is described as “an evening of captivating tales, prose and poetry, and maybe a little song, that embody our relationship with the earth and our experiences upon it.”
The show will be two days after this year’s Earth Day. “It will celebrate Earth Day and our planet, designed to enlighten, inform, and entertain.”
“This is the start of storytelling in the Lehigh Valley again. Audiences are still finding their way back,” she says. Over the years, The Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild presented many adult and children’s storytelling events at the Ice House, Bethlehem’s Godfrey Daniels, and many local libraries. As with other live arts programs, it was negatively affected by the pandemic.
The Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild transitioned into Patchwork Storytelling Guild. In January, Patchwork presented “Tales of Fire and Frost,” featuring eight tellers, including some that will be in “Earth Woven.” The Guild is planning to do other shows in July, October, and a third in the fall or winter, maybe around Halloween.
The storytellers are Denise McCormack, Ingrid Bohn, Jim Cyr, Larry Sceurman, Robin Gow, and Charles Kiernan. The poets are Darrell Parry, Nancy Scott, and Ms. Latrice Young.
The show is April 24 at the Bethlehem’s Charles A. Brown Ice House, 56 River Street, Bethlehem, on Sand Island. Free parking is available. Tickets can be ordered at www.patchworkstorytelling.org The show is free, with a suggested donation of $15. It is expected to last about two hours.
