From October 2-5 in Samuels Theatre of the Tompkins College Center, Performing Arts @ Cedar Crest College brings to life the Off-Broadway hit 'Cowgirls'.

Set in small-town Rexford, Kansas Cowgirls tells the story of Jo Carlson and her two employees, Mickey and Mo, who must come up with a way to save Hiram Hall, the run-down country-music venue that Jo inherited from her father.

After a miscommunication Jo realizes she has booked the Coghill Trio”classical musicians Mary Lou, Rita and Lee”rather than the Cowgirl Trio.

The worlds of classical and country collide as the women (try to) work together to make great music”and fast.

Conceived by with Music and Lyrics by Mary Murfitt, Book by Betsy Howie and Stage and Music Direction by Bill Whitney, 'Cowgirls' is high-energy fun for the whole family.

"It starts with a case of mistaken identity,' explaines Whitney, "but is ultimately about the search for one's own identity. The six characters embodied in this musical are some of the most multi-dimensional female roles ever written for the American musical theatre.

"They are truly cowgirls - funny, fierce, independent, strong in the face of uncertainty, talented, and nobody's fools."

He continues, "Each of them has a journey, and this musical maps their stories onto some great country-style (with a splash of classical) music.

"It's a hidden treasure in the musical theatre repertoire, and I think our audiences will have a wonderful time."
