The Performing Arts Department at Cedar Crest College continues its 20-21 season with the musicalFAME.The production will be presented on Thursday,Feb. 25 “ Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021 at 7 p.m.and on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.Each performance will be livestreamed to ticket holders; there will be no audience in attendance.Roxanne Amico, chair of Performing Arts at Cedar Crest, has gathered a creative team that includes Bill Mutimer as director, Brian M. Foley as musical director, and choreographer Joanellyn "Joey" Schubert. The cast includes Cedar Crest students and alumnae as well as actors from the community.FAMEis a stagemusicalbased on the 1980 teen musical drama filmof the same name. Set inNew York City, it chronicles the lives and hardships of students attending theHigh School of Performing Artsfrom their auditions through their high school years. ProducerDavid De Silvaconceived the premise in 1976, partially inspired by the musicalA Chorus Line.It tells the story of several students who attend the school, among them fame-obsessed Carmen, ambitious actress Serena, wisecracking comedian/bad boy Joe, quiet violinist Schlomo, "talented but dyslexic" dancer Tyrone, determined actor Nick, overweight dancer Mabel, and a serious dancer, Iris, from a poor family.The musical premiered in 1988 in Miami, conceived and developed byDe Silva, with a book by José Fernandez, music by Steve Margoshes and lyrics byJacques Levy.
