Fresh off the critical and box office success of last year's 'A Softening of Her Eyes', Crowded Kitchen Players presents its original play, UNSPEAKABLE, March 22 through March 31, 2019 at The Charles A. Brown IceHouse in Bethlehem.
For reasons unknown, little Adam Shane has abruptly stopped speaking to anyone but Uncle Henry who picks him up after school, takes him to diners, and entertains him with fabulous stories until Adam's single Mother, Naomi, gets home from work. But their idyllic hours together are shattered when a man, Jerry, who is unfamiliar to them, begins following Adam and Henry wherever they go and furtively watching everything they do. And when that man approaches Adam one afternoon, while Henry is momentarily distracted, and tries to persuade Adam to walk off with him, and when authorities investigate but find themselves powerless, under the law, to intervene, Uncle Henry grimly realizes he must act aggressively on their own behalf. UNSPEAKABLE was written by Ara Barlieb, with extensive assistance from the cast, and has been created through years of interviews and collaboration with dedicated and caring child welfare and law enforcement professionals who themselves often share in these feelings of helplessness in preventing abuse. Its intended purpose is to engage, to entertain, and to encourage widespread involvement in the protection of children.
Uncle Henry is portrayed by David 'Oz' Oswald. Brian Wendt plays Jerry. Trish Cipoletti plays Jerry's therapist, Alison Blake.
Crowded Kitchen Players veteran cast members include Tom Harrison, Felecia White, Florence Taylor, Susan Burnette, Carla Hadley, Bruce Brown, Paula Klein, Judy Evans, and Nancy Walsh.
The company warmly welcomes newcomer Julisa Trinidad.
Adam is represented by a puppet created by Doug Roysdon of Mock Turtle Marionettes and handled by Pamela Wallace.
Stage Manager is Alexandra Racines.
