and ideals, Darrow is presented as a persuasive and passionate speaker, who defends the
seemingly indefensible and champions the underdog with eloquence and humor.
A small-townLosAngeles as he becomes one of the most sought-after attorneys of the era.
His landmark cases includethe Scopes "Monkey Trial," the Leopold and Loeb Thrill Murders, the
McNamaraBrothers L.A. Times bombing, and the civil rights murder trial of Dr. Ossian Sweet.
The playalso addresses Darrows victories related to the American Labor Movement and the
establishment of the 8-hour workday.
Country Gate founder, Bill Scurato, of Harmony Township, portrays Darrow, as the lawyer
reflects on his life with salty humor, courtroom gusto, and human relish. According to Scurato,
"the play, showcasing this champion of dissenters, provides a cautionary relevance to current
times."
