Allentown, Pa. – The Pines Dinner Theatre, 448 N 17th St, Allentown, is pleased to present the premier of “Heart to Heartland” opening September 11, 2015.
“Heart to Heartland” is a brand new jukebox musical featuring traditional music along with folk, country, and gospel music as the audience meets Sam and Marty, traveling around the country with their 1968 Serro-Scotty Trailer Camper they’ve affectionately named “Hazel.”
As the show begins Sam and Marty are enjoying a beautiful evening on vacation, sitting by the campfire. Their peaceful reverie is suddenly disturbed the arrival of their next-door “neighbors” for the night, Bryce and Courtney Davis, two New York City urbonites, who have just arrived as well at the campground. As the evening progresses, Sam and Marty are dismayed to learn that the only Courtney wants to camp, and Bryce is just along for the ride. Throughout the evening of the two couples sitting by the fire, many emotions are enjoyed, many funny, some sad, and even poignant. By the time the sun rises the next morning, Courtney and Bryce discover that home has nothing to do with location, because home is where the heart is.
Featuring songs from across the country, including folk songs, traditional gospel music, and many more, the show features a musical smorgasbord that will keep the audience singing along throughout the entire show. Songs include “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” “I’ll Fly Away,” “Mama Don’t Allow,” and many more.
“Heart to Heartland” was written by long-time Pines Dinner Theatre Artistic Director Oliver Blatt. Mr. Blatt has worked on productions across the country, including the national tours of “The Who’s Tommy” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” He has been on the production staff at theatres including Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse, Lakes Region Summer Theatre, American Entertainment Productions, and Stars Within Reach Productions. Most recently, Mr. Blatt served as the musical director and orchestrator/arranger of the New York premier of “Tombstone, the Legend of Wyatt Earp,” as well as composer of the new children’s musical “Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun” and sound designer for “Warp Speed: A Sci-Fi Parody Musical,” for which he won “Best Sound Design of a Play or Musical” at the Midtown International Theatre Festival.
Dinner always includes salad, fresh baked corn bread and rolls, beverage service of iced tea, water and coffee, along with entrée and dessert. Patrons also have the opportunity to purchase specialty drinks before the show and at intermission.
