The second season of Northampton Community College’s Summer Theatre program opens with Disney’s NEWSIES on Wednesday, June 6. The NCC production is the Lehigh Valley’s first performance of the Tony award-winning musical.
NEWSIES will be presented on Wednesday – Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., from June 6-16, with two Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. on June 10 and June 17.

Performances will be held in NCC’s Lipkin Theatre, on its main campus, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem. Handicapped accommodations are available.
An Opening Night Party will highlight the Wednesday, June 6 performance. All attendees are invited for light refreshments and a “Meet the NEWSIES” opportunity after the show.
The story of the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899 has been translated into a rollicking), dance-filled musical for the entire family.
Two Notre Dame High School graduates and multiple FREDDY award winners, Patrick Davis and Samantha Prentice, are featured in the lead roles of Jack Kelly and Katherine Plumber.
The cast includes local high school and college students (many of whom are also FREDDY winners), as well as professional actors from outside the Lehigh Valley.
“I’m so excited to bring NEWSIES to the Lehigh Valley – it is such an upbeat, family-friendly show, full of great songs and dancing,” said Bill Mutimer, Producing Artistic Director of the Summer Theatre program, and director of NEWSIES.
“We have assembled a really great cast of strong performers.”
NCC will continue its season with the Tony-award-winning musical, “1776” which opens July 4 with a special 5 p.m. performance that includes a BBQ picnic; the regular run is from July 5 –July 15, on Wednesdays-Sundays.
A children’s musical, “How I Became a Pirate”, will be offered on Wednesdays-Saturdays from July 11-Aug. 4.
The season concludes with another Tony winner, the musical “Dreamgirls”.
It will also be offered Wednesdays-Sundays, from July 25-Aug. 5.
A fifth, non-musical show has yet to be announced.
