William Mutimer, head of the Northampton Community Colleges Theatre Department, has announced the colleges next production, How I Learned to Drive.
The drama will be taped and available to watch via video on demand from Friday, March 12 “ Sunday, March 14. Clair M. Freeman is the director.
Paula Vogels Pulitzer Prize-winning drama is a moving memory play about a woman coming to terms with a charismatic uncle who impacts her past, present and future. The story follows the strained, sexual relationship between Li'l Bit and her aunt's husband, Uncle Peck, from her pre-adolescence through her teenage years into college and beyond. Using the metaphor of driving, the play explores the ideas of control and manipulation. Due to language and themes, this show is recommended for mature audiences.
The cast includes Marian Barshinger as Lil Bit, Jesse Nitchkey as Peck; Alexander Smith as the Greek Male Chorus; Emily Gonzalez as the Greek Female Chorus: and Julia Mason as the Greek Teenage Chorus.
How I Learned to Drive originally opened Off-Broadway in 1997, and ran for eleven months. It was scheduled to open on Broadway last March but that production has been indefinitely postponed.
