The Narçisse Theatre Company will present "No Exit" by Jean-Paul Sartre on May 27th and 28th at the Unicorn Theatre at 417 Front St, Catasauqua, Pennsylvania at 8 PM.
"No Exit" (Huis Close) is considered by critics and scholars as a classic example of existentialist literature. Existentialism is a philosophy that emphasizes individual existence, freedom and choice. It is the view that humans define their own meaning in life. In short, existence trumps essence. It is one's actions, not beliefs that are the sum of one's existence. As the character Inez Serrano says during the course of the drama "You are your life, and nothing else".
"No Exit" is about three individuals who find themselves trapped in a small room in Hell. In Hell there is no sleeping, there is no nightfall and there is no exit. These three individuals are of different backgrounds, but now they are condemned to spend eternity revealing to each other the crimes that brought them to this residence. As if tied by an invisible thread they are as incapable of escaping each other as they are this room. Together they learn the true nature of torment. They learn that try as they may there is no salvation in this place. They learn that "Hell is other People"
