Selkie Theatre will present their newest creation, "A Moment With Nelle Harper Lee", directed by George B. Miller and featuring actress Elizabeth McDonald, on April 28, 2015 for two performances at the Memorial Library of Nazareth "A Moment With Nelle Harper Lee", created by Miller and McDonald, debuted at the Pennsylvania Playhouse in May, 2014 as a complement to their production of "To Kill a Mockingbird", the stage version of Harper Lees beloved novel, also directed by George B. Miller.
The audience meets the older Harper Lee (McDonald), still wickedly smart and cantankerous, as she rebuffs an interviewer about her "new" novel. But, realizing she has a rapt audience, Lee relaxes a bit and shares reflections on her life in sleepy Monroeville, Alabama; her lawyer father; the life journey that lead to writing "To Kill A Mockingbird" and how that book, and the fame that came with it, changed her life. There are colorful stories of friend Truman Capote, of life on the Hollywood set of the award-winning "Mockingbird" film, and a glimpse into her newly re-discovered novel, "Go Set A Watchman", set for publication in mid-2015. Before she goes, Harper Lee opens the conversation up to the audience, taking questions - and asking a few herself! Miller and McDonald created "A Moment With Nelle Harper Lee" to allow, and encourage, further exploration of the themes of Lees classic "To Kill A Mockingbird", from social justice and racism to memory, family and the role of the artist and author in public and private life. "A Moment With Harper Lee" will be performed at the Memorial Library of Nazareth are at 2pm and at 4pm on Tuesday, April 28.
Seating is limited and pre-registration is required; to register, please contact the Memorial Library at 610-759-4932 or at
