(Lehigh Valley) Selkie Theatre is proud to present the World Premiere of ADDRESSING GETTYSBURG, OR SWIMMING TO THE HIGH WATER MARK, a timely, fascinating new piece written and performed by Richard Sautter, at the Charles Brown IceHouse in Bethlehem on Friday and Saturday, September 13th and 14th, at 8pm as part of The IceHouse Tonight Series.
In ADDRESSING GETTYSBURG, writer/actor and self-proclaimed history nerd Richard Sautter reflects on the experience of moving to, and living in, America's most sacred ground. Sautter moved to Gettysburg, PA with his family fourteen years ago. Since that time, he has been collecting observations about what it means to live and work in America's sacred ground.
Spending extended time in Gettysburg means meeting so many different people, there for so many different reasons, from passionate historians to ghost hunters, from Civil War reenactors to apathetic schoolchildren.
It also causes one to think about how some places gain such deeply special meaning for us, and how our history affects us today.
ADDRESSING GETTYSBURG, OR SWIMMING TO THE HIGH WATER MARK is Sautter's attempt to put all of these experiences into one show that combines both laughter and deep reflection.Richard Sautter has been a theatre professional for 25 years, principally as a performer, but his career has also featured turns as a director, playwright, and designer.
His favorite roles include Gloucester in King Lear, the Laredo Kid in The Majestic Kid, and Marcus Lycus in Forum.
He is on the Theatre faculty at both Gettysburg and York Colleges. He has also taught at Messiah College, McDaniel College, and at Penn State Lehigh Valley.
For four years, Richard served as a Commonwealth Speaker for the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, delivering presentations on the topic of the American theatre during the Civil War.Sautter was delighted to perform his solo piece 12 Steps for Selkie Theatre at The IceHouse in Bethlehem two years ago. ADDRESSING GETTYSBURG is his fourth solo show.ADDRESSING GETTYSBURG, OR SWIMMING TO THE HIGH WATER MARK runs Friday, September 13, and Saturday, September 14 at 8pm at the Ice House on Sand Island in historic Bethlehem.
